Nikolai has 20 years of experience in banking transactions and specializes in syndicated and pre-export financing, as well as in debt restructuring. Among his clients are the largest Russian and international banks and financial institutions.

Until 2022, Nikolai headed the banking practice of Moscow office of Linklaters.

Nikolai's work experience includes advising:

a syndicate of banks in relation to the financing of the construction of a railway wheels manufacturing plant in one of the special economic zones of the Russian Federation;

a syndicate of banks on syndicated project financing for the development of Russia's largest copper deposit;

one of the major banks in relation to a syndicated loan to a manufacturer of mineral fertilizers in the amount of USD 3.9 billion;

a major bank in relation to the provision of the advance pre-export financing to a borrower in the amount of more than USD 2 billion;

lenders in relation to the syndicated financing arranged for a subsidiary of Trafigura, an international trading company, for the purpose of acquiring an interest in a flagship oil project in the Arctic from an oil company;

one of the major banks in relation to the restructuring of debts of the Agrokor Group in the amount of EUR 6 billion; and

lenders in relation to the restructuring of debts of large companies (DTEK, Svyaznoy, Eurasian Resources Group).

Nikolai graduated with honors from the Faculty of Law of Moscow State University.
