Roman has 20 years of experience representing wealthy individuals, business owners and public figures in Russia and abroad. He has successfully delivered hundreds of projects involving international taxation, restructuring of private clients’ assets, capital amnesty and representation in tax litigation.

Prior to joining the team at Orion, Roman was the head of a leading law firm specialising in services to wealthy private clients.

Roman is individually ranked by Chambers and Partners, Pravo-300 and Kommersant among the top lawyers in categories such as Private Wealth, Tax and Compliance.

Experience

Roman’s experience includes advising and representing:

the family of the founder of one of the largest tech companies in Russia with respect to an inheritance in excess of $ 1 billion, including taxes, capital relocation and ownership restructuring;

private clients in connection with the relocation of several large family estates from Switzerland to the United Arab Emirates and the establishment of management and investment structures;

the owner of a major industrial holding company in a tax case over transactions with foreign companies in the amount of $ 110 million;

a business owner in litigation with the tax service over taxation of a controlled foreign corporation, as well as advising on the practical application of guarantees previously given by the RF President in the context of capital amnesty;

the beneficial owner of several major shopping centres in Moscow valued at $ 100 million for the tax-neutral removal of foreign links in the chain of ownership;

a private investor in a precedent-setting case with the tax service over currency legislation compliance in the use of foreign accounts;

the beneficiary of a major salt plant involving the unfreezing and return to the client of personal assets in the amount of $ 30 million that were frozen due to sanctions; and

Mikhail Gorshenev in a major case over infringement of moral rights and recovery of non-pecuniary damages.

Education

Roman graduated from the Faculty of Law at Moscow State University in 2005.
