Yusup Magomedov is an Associate in the Dispute resolution practice at Orion. He specializes in advising and representing clients in international commercial arbitration, as well as before Russian and foreign state courts. Yusup’s experience includes representing the interests of major industrial enterprises and financial organizations in international commercial arbitration under the rules of the ICC, HKIAC, LCIA and SAC, including in a construction dispute arising out of an EPC contract.
Yusup also has experience in advising clients on corporate law and bankruptcy, including on challenging transactions and imposition of subsidiary liability on persons controlling the debtor.
Yusup's work experience includes representing:
a Russian company in arbitration proceedings under the SAC rules against a U.S. company for an amount of over $ 140 million;
a client in arbitration proceedings under the SAC rules for an amount of over $ 50 million in connection with the termination of a contract;
a Russian company in arbitration proceedings under ICC rules against a European group of companies in connection with the improper performance of obligations for the construction of a marine terminal;
a subsidiary of a major Russian financial institution in arbitration proceedings under the HKIAC rules against a Chinese company;
a Russian company in arbitration proceedings under the LCIA rules against an Irish company in relation to the return of an aircraft under a leasing agreement;
a large shopping mall in a dispute over the recovery of overdue rent and unlawful repudiation of a contract;
a major foreign bank on regulatory policy and sanctions risks under Russian law; and
a subsidiary of a Russian state corporation on the establishment of branches and representative offices in foreign jurisdictions.
Yusup graduated from the Faculty of Law of the Kazan Federal University in 2017 and the Master's programme of the Russian School of Private Law in 2022.
